Staff Writer, Hawaii Business

Hawaii Business Magazine is looking for a new Staff Writer to join our Editorial Team.

We want a smart, hard-working person who possesses excellent writing skills, is skilled at interviewing people, knows Hawai‘i and its people, and enjoys working with other smart, hard-working people.

The successful applicant will join an innovative and collaborative team at Hawaii Business that has earned respect in the community for its coverage of important local issues like housing, small businesses, the environment, diversity, tourism and leadership.

Your work environment is at your discretion: you can work in person at all times, or work remotely most of the time or somewhere in between. Applicant must reside on O‘ahu.

The job duties include:

  • Report and write stories for print and online.
  • Compile and send some of our email newsletters.
  • Write and post for social media.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in person and remotely to generate ideas, plan stories and projects, strategize about new processes and otherwise be part of an effective team. 
  • Attend in-person staff meetings.
  • Work at and support our in-person events.
  • Maintain the highest standards for ethical and editorial integrity, accuracy and quality. 
  • Represent the magazine well by treating everyone in the community with respect, integrity and aloha.
  • Other responsibilities as the market and business dictate.  

The annual salary range for this position is $38,000 to $44,000.

The new Staff Writer will report to Steve Petranik, Editor and Executive Publisher of Hawaii Business Magazine.
