Art Director, Hawaii Business

Hawaii Business Magazine is looking for a new Art Director, to join a two-person creative powerhouse. The applicant should be proficient in graphic design with experience in print and online media. 

We value excellent and inventive layouts, photography, illustrations, typography, logos and other creations that attract readers’ attention and keep them engaged with our stories and advertising. For their first-rate work, our designers have won dozens of national and statewide awards in recent years.

We want someone with a passion for good design. The successful applicant will join an innovative and collaborative team at Hawaii Business that has earned respect in the community for its coverage of important local issues like housing, small businesses, the environment, diversity, tourism, and leadership.

In addition to being creative, the new Art Director should be well-organized, solution-oriented, self-directed and able to manage their time and finish tasks on schedule.

This is a hybrid position with work-from-home flexibility. Applicant must reside on O‘ahu.

The best qualified candidates will also be able to:

  • Work collaboratively and collegially with the creative director and the magazine’s other departments: Editorial, Sales, Events, and Digital.
  • Ensure consistency in design across online and print publications .
  • Help in Managing and planning the production calendar.
  • Maintain Hawaii Businessʻs high visual and design quality.
  • Manage multiple projects at once and meet staggered deadlines.
  • Be a critical thinker and problem-solver.
  • Meet other responsibilities as the market and business dictate.

The annual salary range for this position is $50,000 to $55,000.

Brand Events and Marketing Coordinator, HONOLULU Magazine

Job Description

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Act as the LEAD on all HONOLULU, FROLIC and HONOLULU Family branded events. This includes coordinating logistics, programming and décor, and the following:
    • Select and manage outside vendors necessary to execute the events in a way that reflects positively on the brand.
    • Lead all on-site event requirements including set-up and break-down, oversee staffing and lining up shift coverage from among staff.
    • Work with the Marketing Director to create event materials, as needed.
    • Communicate frequently and effectively to the rest of the sales, marketing, and editorial teams about event details
    • Present past event recaps and upcoming event plans at monthly brand planning meetings and to sponsors.
  • Keep all event and promotion budgets and pro formas up to date, formatted and organized at all times
  • Manage sponsor deliverables and attend all meetings.
  • Evolve, grow, and when necessary, retire, existing events to maintain our premier brand positioning.
  • Identify and establish objectives and metrics for success for each event. Document and recap each event’s performance against the objectives. Manage each event’s performance to objectives, budgets, making recommendations to team at frequent points along the way to make necessary changes or modifications to stay on track.
  • Assist with sponsor negotiations when necessary.
  • Spearhead HONOLULU’s ticketing platform, HNLTix.com. This includes identifying prospects, assisting with initial outreach and demonstrations, tracking each event status, customer service, reporting and maintenance.

Marketing Duties:

  • Deploy and track client campaigns and special projects both in digital and print.
  • Update the shared work plan in real-time.
  • Track progress toward agreed-upon goals.
  • Communicate with team members in between meetings to ensure agreed upon tasks are completed on time.
  • Ensure clear and open communication across team members.
  • Develop collaboration plans informed by content experts; proposing new approaches;monitoring and communicating progress; troubleshooting and resolving. Implementation challenges may also be necessary.
  • Deploy client social media, newsletter, and web story campaigns.
  • Pull recap reports as needed for clients.

Requirements:

  • Experience in event management of minimum 1-2 years
  • Skilled in project management.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Canva, Photoshop.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and transportation.
  • The position requires numerous night and weekend hours.
  • Social media and CMS knowledge a plus.
  • Can lift at least 40 pounds.

Skills Needed:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Positive, can-do-anything attitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, problem solve, prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
